Långholmen FC – laget som har mött IFK Göteborg

När bildades laget?

Långholmen FC was founded in 2002 and is now an important part of the sporting and social life in Stockholm.

Varför bildades laget?

The club was formed when a bunch of ex-pats used to meet up on Långholmen’s gravel pitch each Saturday to play football together.

Hur bildades laget?

Word spread around and from  8 or so players turning up each week, the numbers grew to sometimes over 30!  They were great times. All nationalities mixed together playing football for a few hours. It was a sense of belonging. It couldn’t have been a more humble beginning.

Hur fick laget sitt namn och hur kom klubbmärket till?

We played football together on the island of Långholmen, Södermalm. It felt fitting to be called Långholmen FC.

The logo/badge is a combination of various references: Västerbron, the historic prison on Långholmen, a football pitch, a football and the sky and surrounding water.

Geografisk hemmaort?

Långholmen, Södermalm, Stockholm.

Vilket mål har laget med verksamheten?

To provide football of different skill levels available to both men and women and for them to enjoy being part of our club.

Har laget eller har laget haft några kända profiler?

We have been fortunate to have been graced with a host of talent throughout the years including one of two prolific ex top Swedish players.

Lagets största framgång?

We could say that the high point for the club was becoming runners up in the Stockholm Cup in 2011 which meant automatic placement in the Svenska Cupen competition. The fixture draw put us in a match against Sweden’s most successful team IFK Göteborg. The media interest became massive with national and international news teams dubbing the match “David versus Goliath”. It was played on the 20th August 2012 at Grimsta IP in front of 670+ fans, tv cameras streamed it live plus many tabloid and Internet journalists were present to report. We lost 9-0 but at the end of the match it was us that celebrated like we had won.

Mest minnesvärda match eller händelse?

Apart from the match against IFK Göteborg in Svenska Cupen, making it to division 3 in 2009 was an incredible feeling.

Finns det något mer att berätta om laget?

LFC has always been proud of its international mix of players and we like to consider ourselves an international club with a tradition of becoming a second-home for many a traveling footballer, a consultant placed abroad, a student far from home or whoever manages to pass by. We have had members from all over the globe play for us during the years including those from the 72 different nationalities who have played with Långholmen FC. Our commitment to provide football for men and women and of various skill levels also makes us unique.
